About

Hello there! My name’s Sam. I’m a former participant in the JET Programme who has recently returned from teaching English in Fukushima Prefecture for three years (2010-2013). This year I’m back in the UK and going on to studying towards a MA in Translation, in the hope of transitioning to working full-time as a translator.

This site is a place for me to post about my experiences of living, working and studying in the UK and Japan. I also hope that some of my content here is useful to anyone who stumbles across this place.

“Charisu”, is my surname as it’s pronounced in Japanese. Basically, if you write ‘Challis’ in katakana and then romanise it again, that’s what becomes. I like the sound of “Charisu” and as a name it appears to be fairly unique on the internet, which is why I decided to use it as the domain name for this website.

Currently this website is running the WordPress blogging platform, and the theme is “Expound” by Konstantin Kovshenin. The emoticons used are by Noktah Hitam.

All other graphics, artwork, and text on this site, unless other stated, belong to me.
